Nova works in cooperation with LaOnf in Iraq, an initiative to increase the capabilities of nonviolent civil society when it comes to prevent a conflict, resolving crisis situations and initiating a process of sustainable peace in Iraq. From Nova, it os intended to strengthen communication and advocacy and supporting nonviolent action of the member organizations of LaOnf network, NNAC network and nonviolent activists.
LaOnf issued a peace press statement that reflects the importance and effectiveness of nonviolence as a form of resistance and a tool for transformation in Iraq:
Nonviolence defeated all guns and tanks and corrected some concepts diffused in the Arab countries, including the role of the army. We bring our salutation to the army of Tunisia and of Egypt, as far as they stand at the side of their peoples. Armies of the Middle East should be tool to protect people and not to be an instrument of repression or war.
Those who ask about this strange mystery, which succeeded in dropping down tyranny, we say that it is not a mystery, it is nonviolence. To those who are seeking to reforms and resist tyranny, whether this tyranny was occupation or dictatorship, big or small, we say chose nonviolent alternative.
LaOnf group has been since 2005 struggling to raise awareness of this alternative as an effective resistance and as a tool for reform in Iraq. To make Iraq a civil state meets clearly and definitively with the values of Human Rights and Democracy. We send our call to every person convinced of the need for change and want to say NO for: each mistake, violation, corruption, bribery, oppression or any gender, religious, sectarian or ethnic discrimination, to use nonviolence. It is time for Iraq to say that nonviolence is the solution.
