The International Coalition to End the Illegal Siege of Gaza formed after Israel's 22-day assault on Gaza in winter 2008-09.

To mark the one year anniversary of the Israeli attack the coalition is mobilizing an international contingent for a nonviolent march alongside the people of Gaza on January 1, 2010 in order to end the illegal blockade. The coalition conceives this march as part of a broader strategy to end the Israeli occupation by targeting nonviolently its flagrant violations of international law from the house demolitions and settlements to the curfews and torture.

The initial sponsors of this group include Alice Walker and Noam Chomsky as well as CODEPINK and the Canadians for Justice and Peace in the Middle East. Our partners in Gaza include the United Nations Relief and Works Agency, the Palestine Medical Relief Society, the Palestinian Network of NGOs, the Red Crescent Society and Medical Aid for Palestine.

A group has been formed in Spain to support a take part in the march. More info at www.marxapergazalliure.palestina.cat

16-year-old filmmaker Arafat Kanaan lives in Nil'in - a village at the heart of peaceful resistance, which the apartheid wall has turned into a ghetto. Arafat has filmed as Israel imposed curfews on the village, staged military incursions, humiliated, beaten and assassinated villagers. During the protests, Arafat films as Israeli solders respond to non-violent resistance with teargas cannons, rubber bullets, live ammunition, sound bombs and sewage water. Despite harrassment from Israeli soldiers, who broke his camera while he was filming an assassination, Arafat continues to peacefully resist - and expose - life in his village under occupation.
